General climate models (GCMs), produced from high-speed computer simulations, of a very warm Archean/early Proterozoic climate should be explored for insight into issues of greenhouse responses, latitudinal temperature and precipitation differences, and lapse rates. There have been previous GCMs of the Archean climate, but they have assumed conventionally ac-ceptedlow global mean temperatures (Henderson-Sellers et al. 1991; Jenkins et al. 1993). Modeling studies are merited of possible excursions from ambient temperatures of a very warm Archean/early Proterozoic as a result of impact, cosmic dust clouds, volcanic pulses, and biotic evolution.
