Collecting as much demographic and descriptive data as possible is necessary in order to identify the specific characteristics of the mummy under investigation. The mummification technique, bioarchaeological setting of the study, contextual setting, and physical findings should all be recorded and photodocumented, as these and other variables will impact the choices regarding endoscopic applications. The project goals should be clearly reported. Reporting whether the endoscopic procedure is to be for a general survey, specific artifact analysis, target biopsy, or an exploratory procedure clarifies the intent of its application.
