Obviously any such number is bound to be highly imprecise, since not all of the factors in the above equation are known with accuracy. In fact, most of them can only be estimated rather roughly and the values assigned to some of them depend on which cosmogonical theory one happens to favor. Therefore, the reader should not infer that the estimates contained in this chapter and the next are intended to represent the final word on the subject. They merely represent one person's attempt to arrive at numbers having some rationale behind them. The reader is welcome to alter them in any way that better conforms to his own view of the universe.
