Exoplanets

The search for exopfanets extends bac^over several decades. Methods of detection are many and va^d, including velocimetry, transits, ยป gravitational microlensing and pulsar timing. They push the instruments involved to their limits. Actual images of exoplanets are as yet unfeasible, except in the case of some very special systems.

The American project Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF) will consist of two complementary observatories. A visible-light coronagraph (seen here) is due to be launched after 2015, and an infrared interferometer will be launched after 2020.
