Color in Jupiters Belts and Zones

Observation of color in Jupiter's belts and zones can be an aesthetically pleasing endeavor. Unfortunately, it also is one that can be very scientifically frustrating. Not only is contrast very subtle between features in Jupiter's cloud tops, but the determination of color by the human eye is difficult to quantify and fraught with subjectivity. Peek noted that the visual appreciation of color is such an individual affair that it can hardly be expected to furnish scientific data reliable enough to be used with confidence as a satisfactory basis for theoretical investigation [84]. Using the human eye, observers can only judge color in a relative and subjective manner, even if they are wise to possible instrumental and atmospheric illusions [85]. Nevertheless, I almost always make note of color in the record of observation when observing Jupiter.
