primates is significantly longer and narrower than in strepsirrhine primates. Using conventional regression analyses, von Bonin (1947) showed that frontal cortex hyperscales with brain size, and humans have "precisely the frontal lobe which [we deserve] by virtue of the overall size of [our] brain.'' These are, of course, precisely the qualitative conclusions arrived at by Bush and Allman using analysis of phylogenetic regressions. In fact, many studies reviewing the uses of phylogenetic methods for reconstructing ancestral states conclude that all methods will recover a very strong historical signal (Losos, 1999).
