By virtue of the large equivalent aperture (a mirror 20 m in diameter), the LBT (Large Binocular Telescope) in interferometer-imaging mode (Fizeau mode given by the LINC NIRVANA instrument, see Sect. 8.2.2) allows measurement of the positions of targets with an accuracy of about 100 marcsec. Such accuracy is enough to allow the observation of giant planets. The LBT saw first light in 2005, and the equipment for the interferometer mode should shortly be available.
