is approximately 0.5 Ma. This discrepancy could be a measure of the intrinsic uncertainties of the Atlas program. Alternatively, the two events may really have been separated by about 0.5 Ma. This point will be discussed later in this chapter, when we deal with the impact events that occurred near the K/T boundary.
