The empty and occupied sites are characterized by molar concentrations, just as if they were independent species in the solution. Thus if each macromolecule possesses n binding sites and the molar concentration of the macromolecule in solution is [mmtot], the total concentration of binding sites in solution is [So] = nx[mmtot].
