7.19 An important process in the production of brass from copper and zinc is the mixing of the two pure liquid metals, each at their respective melting points (steps C3 and Z3 in the flowsheet). The alloying process is adiabatic and conducted at constant pressure. Brass is one of the few liquid-metal alloys that is very nearly ideal. The Cu/Zn mole ratio is 3/2.
