8.1 Benzene and toluene form nearly ideal solutions. At 20°C the vapor pressures of pure benzene and toluene are 74 Torr and 22 Torr, respectively. A 1:1 solution is prepared, and the external pressure is varied such that it boils at 20°C. Assuming isothermal boiling, calculate:

a) The total pressure when the solution first begins to boil.

b) The composition of the vapor at the onset of boiling.

c) The total pressure when only a few drops of liquid remain.

8.2 The vapor pressures of dilute solutions of HCl in liquid GeCl4 (germanium tetrachloride, molecular weight 214) are given in the following table for T = 300K.
