The Effect of Pressure on thermodynamic properties

The effect of total pressure on properties of pure substances is of interest from more than a theoretical point of view. For example,

• solid-liquid and solidl-solidll transformations are of great practical importance in understanding phase transformations of minerals driven by the enormous pressures deep below the earth's surface.

• High pressures can accentuate the nonideal behavior of gases.

• In a more frivolous vein, because pressure on ice reduces its melting point, ice-skate blades glide on a thin film of liquid water created by the force exerted by the blade on the ice.

Do we really want the one thing that gives us its resources unconditionally to suffer even more than it is suffering now? Nature, is a part of our being from the earliest human days. We respect Nature and it gives us its bounty, but in the recent past greedy money hungry corporations have made us all so destructive, so wasteful.
